Saint Patapios was born in Egypt, Thebes. Both of his parents were Christians, his father a governor. Patapios was educated by the best tutors, and he desired to leave the life of materialism and the world to become an ascetic. He lived as a desert hermit when his father died, as he was inspired by the Church Fathers’ lives. He then moved into a cave near Corinth and later sailed to Constantinople to live as a monk in a Monastery of Blachernae. He fasted, prayed and even performed miracles until he died at the age of 83. In the early 20th century, Saint Patapios appeared to a local priest in a dream letting him know of where to find his relics. It was found the next day with a large wooden cross on his chest and a parchment with Saint Patapios name.
